Harvey grew up in Southern California and attended UCLA and Cal State Dominquez Hills. A self-taught woodworker, he started up a woodworking business, producing both functional objects and one-of-a-kind art pieces. In 1973, he moved to Mariposa County seeking a rural area in which to live, and an environment that was closer to nature in which to create. He has exhibited at craft shows throughout California, as well as Philadelphia and Boston, and his work is in fine craft galleries across the country.
He and his wife Jo Ann, a physical therapist, live in their dream home in the Merced River Canyon, thirty minutes from the glorious beauty of Yosemite Valley. They love hiking, swimming, exploring caves, and traveling, and delight in being within a one hour drive of their five grandchildren.
